Our Colleagues in the area

We’re not alone! If you want to know about other History Societies locally, or to find out more by looking somewhere else, you might like to follow one of the links below.

Nationally, of course, the National Archives and the British Library. Then we have the British Association for Local History.

Then, at County level, the Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies (HALS), along with the Hertfordshire Association for Local History.

Nearby, Watford Museum and Three Rivers Museum. Three Rivers Museum holds most of the images, shared with the Rickmansworth Historical Society, of Rickmansworth and the area. The Bushey Museum and Art Gallery is outstanding, too.

There are strong local history societies at Watford, St Albans (‘the Arc and Arc’, now in its 175th year), Abbots Langley, Kings Langley, Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and Tring. Those interested in industrial history may like to visit the Watford and District Industrial History Society, and those looking for even more local detail might visit the West Watford historians. Many of the artefacts and collections of Societies in Dacorum are held at the Dacorum Heritage Trust Museum Store in Berkhamsted, which is itself an accredited museum.

You can also find a great deal of information, especially oral history interviews, on the University of Hertfordshire’s Heritage Hub website.

There are plenty of choices for anyone interested in the history of this area!
